Health Professions Foundation Programme

Overview

Health Professions Foundation Programme (HPFP) is a one-year full-time enrichment program preparing aspiring students to enter Texila American University College of Medicine. It’s a foundational program designed to strengthen students’ academic proficiency in basic sciences and career development, helping them to start their medical careers successfully.

The foundation course provides students an opportunity to systematically get acquainted with wide-ranging concepts in natural sciences, behavioral sciences, and medical terminologies, with a strong foundation in medical science.

The foundation medical courses at TAU-Zambia, have been structured to help students enhance their knowledge with hands-on exposure, encouraging them to think and learn beyond conventional approaches to shape their future as healthcare professionals with expert guidance from qualified mentors.

The HPFP is an essential program for stepping into medical courses in Zambia and qualifies students aspiring to join MBChB, nursing and pharmacology, and many more programs.

Eligibility:
Grade 12 School Certificate or GCE with 5 credits or better, four of which must be English Language, Mathematics, Biology and Science.

Admission to Texila American University (TAU) is based on the students’ academic performance, personal character, and extracurricular interests. While the students’ educational background, age, and intended course of study will be taken account, their intellectual, physical, and emotional potential to meet the rigors of a successful medical career will be carefully considered.

What Do You Gain? From Health Professions Foundation Programme

Our full-time Health Professions Foundation Programme also referred to as a pre med courses, is a pre-requisite foundation required to study medicine in Zambia.

Learning Outcomes of  Foundation Medicine Courses

  • HPFP being a foundation program helps students to obtain necessary skills, knowledge and attitude required to proceed with MBChB or health professional degrees in future.
  • The pre med courses are designed to bridge the study of natural sciences and health sciences. Upon completion of the program, students who wish to study medicine in Zambia will have the information required to start their medical or health professional journey.
  • The pre medical courses confers a robust understanding of health sciences imparted at the bachelor’s degree level. Graduates will obtain a foundational level of theoretical familiarity and also be exposed to real-world practical applications. The teaching pedagogy includes tutorials, lectures, simulations, personal mentoring, problem-based erudition, and assessments
  • Graduates will also develop soft-skills and inter-personal skills that are required to function in the health and medical industry.
